Free apprenticeships for under 21s

The Queensland Government is increasing support for young people with free apprenticeships for those under 21 years of age, allowing businesses to take on more apprentices and trainees.

The fully subsidised training will be available in 139 qualifications in areas such as electrical, plumbing and engineering as well as hospitality and early childhood.

It’s a great opportunity for businesses to consider employing an apprentice or trainee. It is all part of our Skills for Queensland strategy to deliver Queensland’s next generation of skilled workers.

Indigenous Business Spotlight:
Primal Sport, Gold Coast

Primal Sport have quickly established themselves as a specialist manufacturer of apparel for sporting associations, educational institutions, businesses and community ventures.

"I have been very fortunate to have spent the majority of my working life within the Community & Government sectors. However, I have always been an entrepreneur at heart.

In 2016, a couple of close friends and myself saw an opportunity to start a business in the apparel industry, we wanted to create something special utilising our experience in community.

From there, we went with the approach of building long term positive relationships, we then got to work, developed a deadly product and went out to the market.

We’ve come along way in 3 years and still have a fair way to go, thanks to our team and our partners we continue to build our small business while working within a community framework and mindset." - Kyel Dancey, Co-Founder, Primal Sport
