Small Business Entrepreneur Grants on offer

The Small Business Entrepreneur Grants Program is now open for applications.This grant helps early stage small businesses to get off to a better start with access to planning, coaching and training.

Grants up to $5000 in matched funding are available to help small business engage a consultant, advisor or business coach for up to three months.

Go Local Dairy processors

Following the launch of the Go Local Dairy campaign, 15 dairy processors from across Queensland gathered in Brisbane on 20 November for the Go Local Dairy Processors’ Summit. Representing cow, sheep, goat, camel and even buffalo milk, the processors were offered access to expert mentors to assist them to plan for rapid expansion.

The processors also connected with distributors, chefs and support services, readying them to streamline their business models, build supply networks and respond to demand. The Go Local Dairy campaign is a partnership between Queensland Dairyfarmers’ Organisation and the Queensland Government.

Celebrating Reconciliation Small Grants now open

The Celebrating Reconciliation Small Grants Program for 2019 is available to help more Queensland communities come together for National Reconciliation Week.

Community organisations are invited to apply for a grant, to the value of $2500, for local celebrations to support reconciliation between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous Queenslanders.

National Reconciliation Week is a national campaign held from 27 May–3 June and builds on respectful relationships shared by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and non-Indigenous Australians.

Have your say on renting in Queensland

Did you know that Queensland has the highest percentage of households renting in Australian states?

If you’re a tenant, property owner or property manager, make sure you have your say about renting in Queensland via the online survey, discussion forums or snap polls before November 30.

You can share your experiences and ideas about topics such as property condition, maintenance and repairs, looking for a home, or protecting your investment. The consultation feedback will help shape the future of renting in Queensland through a review of the Residential Tenancies and Rooming Accommodation Act 2008.

Advancing Indigenous Business

Through funding from the Advancing Indigenous Business Initiative, the National Retail Association (NRA) in conjunction with Community Enterprises Queensland (CEQ) travelled to Thursday Island to deliver a leadership workshop. From across CEQ, 15 store managers came together to develop their skills to assume a manager role and designated career path.

With certified retail training, food safety and customer service delivered throughout the areas CEQ operates, the NRA has sent trainers to remote areas to deliver training. The support the NRA has shown to CEQ trainers has been second to none; well done to all involved.

The Queensland Government is committed to providing a level playing field for all suppliers as part of its Buy Queensland procurement approach. If you have concerns about the conduct of a supplier to government, you can contact the QPP Compliance Unit to lodge a complaint.

Spotlight: 100 Faces of Small Business

Meet Kym Smith from OurEco Clean. Kym saw a gap in the market when she wanted to use only environmentally friendly, chemical-free cleaning products in her home but found them difficult to source. By researching traditional cleaning methods, Kym saw that "going back to basics is the way forward" and the development of Our EcoClean began.

Produced in a small factory in Coolum, OurEco Clean recently secured a major supply contract with The Star Entertainment Group.
